Rowdy and I went for a short grouse loop this evening before the sunset. Ran across two grouse. This is the one I saw and got a video.
It's blurry, sorry, but when the bird finally figured out I was on to it, it quit being fluffy, sucked in all its feathers, stuck its neck up and extended the ruff around the neck. Which is why they are called Ruffed Grouse.
I was hoping the video capture the sound of it flushing when Rowdy ran up but I can't hear it on the video.
The other was in the woods to the right and let me get very close before it flushed. Never saw the second one only heard it.
